(303)

Ellen Terry, the famous Shakespearean actress, was portrayed as Lady Macbeth in John Singer Sargent’s 1889 portrait. The painting shows a spectacular green dress embroidered with gold. The dress is preserved at the Ellen Terry Museum in Smallhythe Place, the timber-framed Kent farmhouse she fell in love with and bought in 1899.
